The Big Splash

SPLASH!

A poem by Richard Dittami

Ready,

on your mark,

SPLASH!

The surface explodes into the air.

The explosion of

first love,

first drive,

first night alone on the road.

First glass of wine, first kiss.

First best friend.

The smooth plane of life forever rippled.

Drops of equanimity falling back to the earth.

Rain.

First vote,

first urban walk.

First job, first pay,

first time the newscast takes a breath from your lungs.

First tears of rage,

first tears of joy.

First movie, first time music rumbles the heart.

SPLASH!

Sometimes we are witness,

sometimes cannonball.

Other times water droplets cast into the air.
